Early Detection Can Save Lives

At our practice, we offer skin cancer screening as an important preventive service. The goal is to identify skin changes that may indicate basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, or malignant melanoma – long before symptoms appear.

Who is eligible?

All patients with statutory health insurance are entitled to a free skin cancer screening every two years starting at age 35.
Some insurance providers cover the costs from age 18 – feel free to ask us about this option.

What does the screening include?

During the exam, we check:

  • The entire skin surface, including visible mucous membranes

  • Suspicious moles, birthmarks, or skin changes

  • Hard-to-see areas such as the back, scalp, or soles of the feet (on request)

We look for signs of both non-melanoma skin cancers (basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma) and melanoma.

How does the exam work?

  1. Medical history: A brief conversation about skin changes, sun exposure, and risk factors

  2. Full-body exam: Careful inspection from head to toe, with the naked eye or a dermatoscope if needed

  3. Documentation: Any suspicious findings are recorded, sometimes with photographs

  4. Consultation: We discuss the results with you immediately

If necessary, we’ll refer you to a dermatologist for further assessment or a biopsy.

Why is skin cancer screening so important?

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Germany – but also one of the most treatable, especially when detected early. A melanoma found at an early stage is usually completely curable.

Our recommendation

  • Take advantage of screening every two years – or sooner if you notice changes

  • Keep an eye on new or changing moles yourself

  • Protect your skin daily with sun protection
