Chemsex = Sex + psychoactive substances. Often with multiple partners and extended sessions. Common among gay, bisexual, queer men, and trans* people.
People use it to enhance pleasure, intimacy, stamina, or disinhibition. For some, it’s a conscious choice; for others, it can become challenging or distressing.
Common Substances
Methamphetamine (Crystal, Tina)
GBL/GHB (G, Liquid Ecstasy)
Mephedrone (Meph, 4-MMC)
Ketamine, Cocaine, Ecstasy/MDMA
Sometimes: Viagra, Poppers, Benzodiazepines (e.g., Diazepam)
Taken by swallowing, snorting, smoking, or injecting ("slamsex" – high risk).
Risks of Chemsex
Medical
Higher risk of HIV/STIs from prolonged/unprotected sex
Anal or genital injuries
Hepatitis C (especially with slamsex)
Drug interactions & overdose
Psychological & Social
Sleep loss, exhaustion, low mood
Loss of control or ability to consent
Stress on relationships or social life
Isolation, shame, feeling unable to stop

Use clean equipment; never share needles/straws
