PrEP

SeGe Köln offers counselling on the prevention of HIV, hepatitis, and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

When it comes to HIV, there are now highly effective ways to protect yourself:

  • HIV-positive people who receive antiretroviral treatment and reduce their viral load below the detectable level cannot transmit HIV (U=U – undetectable = untransmittable).

  • People who are not living with HIV can also protect themselves – with so-called HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (HIV-PrEP). This involves taking an HIV medication regularly to prevent infection.

Since the end of 2019, prescriptions for HIV-PrEP have been covered by public health insurance in Germany. It includes not only the medication but also regular medical consultations and testing for HIV, syphilis, and other STIs.
